6:58 am - Amusement factor: 8
Tongue-in-cheek article, complete with a copy of the acceptance letter, about a futuristic university.

I rather enjoyed this, m'self. Where do I apply? Can I get a tuition grant? ;)

6:51 pm - A view from my front door.
If you look for it, you can find beauty anywhere.

Life has a tendency to give you what you expect to get.

I'm glad I can still expect rainbows. Beautiful!

10:36 am - Further Confusion
Anyone in the Sacramento area interested in a day-trip to FC this year?

I was hoping to have someone to carpool with as I detest long drives, (anything over an hour) and I'm really uncomfortable driving in cities at any time. Can take my car or yours, I'll fill up your gas tank if you prefer to drive.

I'll be bringing my homemade wicked fudge, so help yourself!

Personal day preference is Friday, and either stay late (there's a rock-n-roll dance that night!) and drive home in the dark, or spend the night (if crash space can be had) and return sometime Saturday.

I've not gone in several years, and this may be my last chance to see con-friends before I leave the country.

If you're interested, please leave me a comment with day preference, travel time prefs, and preferred contact info.

Thanks!

EDIT: Seems I have a ride! Yay!

6:43 pm - Yes Virginia, Mother Nature does have a sense of humor!
This was taken in Klamath, CA, in the redwood forest. The tree is visible from one of the shorter trails. Unfortunately, I forget the name of it! [Circle trail, perhaps? Something like that...]

Woodie!

9:28 am - *Happy Ferret Dances*
I got carded the other day!!!  ;)

Ok, so maybe the new policy is to card everyone and anyone. Still, made my day to get carded for buying a small bottle of champagne at the World Market, considering I was born in 1962. *impish grin*

I just had to brag. Heee!

12:28 pm - Hilarious songs!
Ok, so you may not be into folk songs. If not, feel free to ignore this ...

- But you'll be missing out on some good laughs! :D

This group not only performs some great Celtic & Ren-Faire style songs, but they also have some free MP3 downloads - and the lyrics!

The Brobdingnagian Bards

My personal recommendations are the following songs:

"Do Virgins Taste Better" (medley)
"The Scotsman" (dance remix)
"Finnegans Wake"
"Donald, Where's Your Trousers?/What Do You Do With A Drunken Sailor?" (This mix gives a whole new meaning to the "Way-hey up she rises" part of the "sailor" chorus! ;) )

11:48 am - Not dead yet...!
Yeah, yeah, I know. I haven't posted in a while. Mainly because my life is pretty boring, so there's not a lot worth posting!

Lately I've been working on getting my house revamped so I can put it on the market. I have a long list of things that need doing, and so far I've barely put a dent in the list, even with the help of a good friend who is a "Handyman", with most of the tools & skills needed for this kind of thing.

5:19 pm - "I've done that" meme:
Stolen from a bunch of people on LJ & IJ :

Post 3 things you've done in your lifetime that you don't think anybody else on your friends list has done.
- See if anybody else responds with "I've done that." If they have, you need to add another! (2.b., 2.c., etc...)

Optionally- post this in your journal

!. Trained a miniature stallion to use a litter box, as well as sit, rear, stand, and lay down on command.

2. Had aforementioned miniature horse as a house pet.

3. Raised a female mule dear by hand, and successfully released her into the wild as an adult.

Hat tip to Triggur for showing me this awesome vid!

Towards the end, the robot does a fair imitation of a "Capriole" - which you can see performed by an organic horse here.

8:46 pm - Should Dihydrogen Monoxide be banned?
Ban Dihydrogen Monoxide!

The Invisible Killer

Dihydrogen monoxide is colorless, odorless, tasteless, and kills uncounted thousands of people every year. Most of these deaths are caused by accidental inhalation of DHMO, but the dangers of dihydrogen monoxide do not end there. Prolonged exposure to its solid form causes severe tissue damage. Symptoms of DHMO ingestion can include excessive sweating and urination, and possibly a bloated feeling, nausea, vomiting and body electrolyte imbalance. For those who have become dependent, DHMO withdrawal means certain death.

Do read the comments found here. They are worth it!

P.S. I vote "NO" on this ban. There were 5 people [One a 7th grader!] in the comments who agree with me, and for the same reasons I have. Read them to see why.

6:05 pm - So THAT'S the kind of values GOP presidential candidate Huckabee stands for:
Hat Tip to Triggur for this information.

(Mike) Huckabee Covered Up His Son's Torturing and Murdering of Dog.
David Huckabee admits to catching a stray dog, hanging it by its neck, slitting its throat and stoning it to death.

On a more recent note: Republican Presidential Candidate Mike Huckabee's Son Arrested With Gun at Arkansas Airport
"Mike Huckabee said his son grabbed the bag on the way to the airport and didn't realize the gun was inside."

Maybe this guy is different, but when I take a carry-on bag to the airport, I not only pack it myself, but usually double check it to make sure I've not forgotten anything, and to make sure that there is nothing in here that would cause security issues and could be better transported in the check in baggage. Such as more than 3oz containers of liquids...or perhaps a loaded gun with spare ammo...

Please feel free to post this on your journals, my friends. Help spread the word. Before we vote, it's good to be fully informed.

For those of you just arriving from LJ, please post here to let me know to add you to my Friends list. :D

Also, feel free to Friend me if I'd been on your list on LJ.

If not, please ask first. And if your journal name isn't something I'd recognize as belonging to you, please let me know who you are, so I can make an informed decision to friend you! ;)

Thanks!

12:58 pm - Fixing & Creating...
Ever had something fall apart that you couldn't replace by purchasing a new one just like it, and been miffed, because you didn't like the other versions currently available?

I had that recently with my hairbrush. Ok, so not a really big deal. But I like my hair brush, and couldn't find a new one of the same style. So! I rebuilt it!

The rubber pad that had been holding the wooden 'bristles' or 'pins' in place was degrading, and the pins were falling out. So I made a new pad out of latigo leather, and now my brush is functional again!

Here are pics of the old brush pad. You can see where it was ripped.

And here is the finished brush!

The other project was an amusing prop for Halloween. I decided that I was going to do a "Swashbuckler" type costume, with a 'safe' sabre. So I made this one, with a Pheasant feather!

I've already worn it to one costume party, and got lots of laughs as I 'threatened' to tickle people into submission. Since all swords should be named, this one is called "Rapier Wit". ;) *hides!*
